STORYTELLING

In THE FINALS, the world’s evolving narrative comes to life mainly through lore videos that dive deep into the storylines, mysteries, and corporate intrigue of the game.

As part of the narrative team, I contributed to crafting these lore-driven moments by:

  • Outlining scripts that create tension and push the storyline forward.

  • Writing dialogue for our commentators, Scotty and June, to reflect their unique personalities and chemistry.

  • Expanding the game’s universe by tying together story beats and thematic elements.

The video below is one example of how our storytelling connects players to this unpredictable world, offering clues, character insights, and deeper context for the unfolding events.

Season 3 Vignette

Allow me to set the scene: A match just ended, but Scotty and June forgot to turn off their microphones. What follows is an unfiltered exchange—a glimpse into the personalities and conflicts driving the story forward.

VOICELINES & BARKS

Creating voicelines and barks for THE FINALS allowed us to inject personality, humor, and tension into every match. Whether it’s Scotty and June’s commentary or the player barks, my contributions ensures the game is aligned with the creative vision.

My contributions include:

In-game commentary: Writing dialogue for Scotty and June, capturing their distinct voices and conveying their reactions to in-game events.
Barks: Crafting short, impactful phrases for players, from victory cheers to moments of panic, adding a layer of authenticity and excitement to gameplay.

Reactive to Gameplay: Each line is tied to specific triggers in the game (e.g., a team’s win, an objective steal, or an elimination streak building).
Dynamic Delivery: The dialogue is designed to vary, ensuring lines don’t feel repetitive over time.
Building Chemistry: Scotty and June’s banter is crafted to capture the energetic atmosphere of a game show, adding authenticity and charm to their commentary.

ITEMS & COSMETICS

Our cosmetics and items do more than just let players express themselves—they’re an opportunity to tell the game’s story and build the world in small, clever ways. Whether it’s a weapon skin with a corporate-sponsored twist or a costume laced with hints about the world’s history, these elements offer both customization and storytelling.

My work in this area includes:

  • Creating unique item names: Names that reflect each item’s style, purpose, or connection to the world, often with a satirical or humorous edge.

  • Writing descriptions that weave story and style: Some descriptions add playful flavor, while others provide small pieces of lore, hinting at the larger narrative or corporate satire that defines THE FINALS.

  • Reinforcing worldbuilding through cosmetics: Ensuring every item feels like it belongs in THE FINALS, from flashy skins and eccentric accessories to corporate-sponsored designs with hidden stories.
